Nepal becoming a Chinese province? 4 - Buddhist monasteries are spy-nests...

From Nepalese Ekantipur.com, December 4 2009:

Spy agency finds Buddhist monasteries involved in anti-China activities

National Intelligence Department (NID) has listed 24 Buddhist monasteries in the Kathmandu Valley as sensitive for their involvement in the Free Tibet movement and anti-China activities. The national spy agency has placed seven of them on the ‘very sensitive’ list from the security point of view. It has suggested the Home Ministry to keep tabs on altogether 43 monasteries in the capital, out of 59 it studied.

According to him, the administration is on high vigil--anticipating demonstrations in Kathmandu on Wednesday to mark the anniversary of the Dalai Lama winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Anti-China demonstrations are staged in Nepal during the Tibetan festivals.

The intelligence report has suspected that Free Tibet activists have been operating from and some weapons have been stored at Nongak Chholing Monastery in Sheshnarayan VDC on the outskirts of Kathamndu. The monastery has been placed on the ‘highly sensitive’ list. ...

Sounds very essential to Nepalese intelligence, a few monks who wish Tibet was free in one of the poorest countries of the world which is on the brink of a civil war with the Maoist terrorists...

A US congressional report that the Chinese government will not like....

On October 22 2009, the Congressional-Executive Commission on China released the 'Special Topic Paper: Tibet 2008-2009', which can be found at http://www.cecc.gov/pages/virtualAcad/tibet/tibet_2008-2009.pdf. If you want to know what's realy going on, I can highly recommend you read it, even just the findings in the very beginning.

Just a few quotes from the 'Findings' chapter:

the Chinese government and Communist Party strengthened the policies and measures that frustrated Tibetans prior to the wave of Tibetan protests that started in March 2008.

both sides have referred to the dialogue as having stalled. ... The principal results of the eighth round of formal dialogue between the Dalai Lama’s representatives and Party officials were the Dalai Lama’s envoys’ handover of a detailed memorandum explaining Tibetan proposals for “genuine autonomy,” the Party’s rejection of the memorandum, and the Party’s continued insistence that the Dalai Lama fulfill additional preconditions on dialogue.

The government has in the past year used institutional, educational, legal, and propaganda channels to pressure Tibetan Buddhists to modify their religious views and aspirations. Chinese officials adopted a more assertive tone in expressing determination to select the next Dalai Lama, and to pressure Tibetans living in China to accept only a Dalai Lama approved by the Chinese government. Escalating government efforts to discredit the Dalai Lama and to transform Tibetan Buddhism into a doctrine that promotes government positions and policy has resulted instead in continuing Tibetan demands for freedom of religion and the Dalai Lama’s return to Tibet.

The government pressed forward with a Party-led development policy that prioritizes infrastructure construction and casts Tibetan support for the Dalai Lama as the chief obstacle to Tibetan development.

The potential scale of demographic, economic, and environmental impact that the Sichuan-Tibet railway could have on Tibetan autonomous areas of China may far surpass the impact of the Qinghai-Tibet railway, which began operation in July 2006. Confrontations between Tibetans and Chinese government and security officials resulted in 2009 when Tibetans protested against natural resource development projects.

The government and Party crackdown on Tibetan communities, monasteries, nunneries, schools, and workplaces following the wave of Tibetan protests that began on March 10, 2008, continued during 2009. Security measures intensified in some Tibetan areas during a monthslong period that bracketed a series of sensitive anniversaries and observances in February and March 2009. As a result of increased government security measures and harsh action against protesters, Tibetan political protests in 2009 were smaller and of briefer duration than protests of March and April 2008. The Commission’s Political Prisoner Database (PPD) contained as of September 2009 a total of 670 records of Tibetans detained on or after March 10, 2008—a figure certain to be incomplete—for exercising rights such as the freedoms of speech, religion, assembly, and association.

Why do I sometimes wish the Chinese government had not blocked my website from being viewed in China?....

China's bullying tactics - 9 - Dr Mangosuthu Buthelezi

Phalyul.org reports on November 13 on another bullying attempt:

A two-day “5th World Parliamentarians' Convention on Tibet' will take place in Italy's capital Rome from 18 – 19 November. China's Consul General, Liu Yantao recently wrote a letter to persuade Mangosuthu Buthelezi (the South African President of the Inkatha Freedom Party), not to attend a summit of world leaders to discuss China’s rule of Tibet, SAPA news Agency cited a local newspaper of the country as reporting on Thursday.

Buthelezi, who is a friend of the exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, has refused to turn down the invitation, the paper is said to have reported.

Attempts to persuade the South African government to block Buthelezi also failed as government told the Chinese that South Africa is a democratic country which allowed its citizens to travel anywhere as they wished, the report said.

It must be tough for Chinese officials to face all these people who don't want to bend over backwards to please them, and who think democracy is a good idea...

China's bullying tactics - 8 - Obama is to think differently

Yes, according to the 'enlightened view' of Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang, President Obama should remember the days of slavery in the US, and therefore appreciate what the Chinese did in Tibet to stop the serf system.

According to Associated Press on November 12:
Asked about a possible meeting between Obama and the Dalai Lama, Qin said the U.S. president should recognize the exiled Tibetan leader — a Nobel Peace Prize winner — as the former head of a slave state.

What the Chinese appear to forget is that their form of government is considered by many as slavery of the entire population, upto and including arbitrary executions. I would say they replaced partial serfdom with absolute slavery...

China's bullying tactics - 7 - His Holiness the Dalai Lama

In an amazingly clear move, China now wants to forbid His Holiness the Dalai Lama to travel to western countries!
By the way, they recently also do not want him to visit Taiwan or even Arunachal Pradesh in India as you can see in previous posts here.... So perhaps His Holiness should not even leave his residence?

As Phalyul reports on October 22 in China sets three conditions for resumption of talks with Dalai Lama's envoys;

The Dalai Lama should stop travelling to the west as it jeopardizes China’s friendly relations with other countries, Zhu said, accusing the Tibetan leader of engaging in political activities in those countries.

This is not paranoia anymore, this is outright mentally disturbed!

China's bullying tactics - 6 - Japan

The good news is that China does not only bully other countries about the Dalai Lama. The bad news is that they bully just about everyone on everything.

China criticises Japan over Uighur exile visit
Reuters[Tuesday, October 20, 2009 19:07]

BEIJING - China chastised Japan on Monday for allowing a visit by an exiled Uighur activist who Beijing condemns as a separatist, opening a small crack of discord with Japan's recently elected government.

It seems that China is full of separatists and splittists that are all supported by just about all foreign countries. I wonder what the Chinese word for paranoia is?

China's bullying tactics - 5 - India

I hope to be wrong, but it seems that China is desperately looking for a fight with India. A few months ago, the Chinese started claiming that Arunachal Pradesh is their territory, and India's own Prime Minister and His Holiness the Dalai Lama should not go there....?

Now they are starting to show Kashmir as an independent state and treating Kashmir as an independent nation. Phalyul.org reports on Oct.20:

Besides issuing separate visas to Indian passport holders from Jammu and Kashmir State China is now projecting Kashmir as an independent country on maps, media kits and tourist information brochures.

When will the Chinese ever be really concerned about saving face, and stop being every neighbor's pain in the *ss?

Nepal becoming a Chinese province? - 3

From Phayul[Monday, October 12, 2009 17:13]

Nepal asks China for Beijing-Lhasa railway extension till Kathmandu

Dharamsala, October 12: Prime Minister of Nepal, Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, has urged China for extending the Beijing-Lhasa railway line till Kathmandu, PTI reported.

As Beijing marked the 60th anniversary of Communist rule last week, police in Nepal quietly rounded up dozens of Tibetan exiles they said were suspected of planning to hold anti-China protests here. (AFP/File/Prakash Mathema) The report indicated that the new demand could have strategic geopolitical implications for India.

...In return, the Nepalese Prime Minister has assured not to allow any anti-China activity from its soil.

Whereas China has left Maoism behind a long time ago, the Maoist in Nepal are growing and growing in influence. Stuck in the middle are the Tibetan refugees. I wonder when the Chinese will come up with a story that Nepal was China all along in history...

Nobel peace prize for Barrack Obama

OK, I'll admit it, I'm an Obama fan, his attitude is so much more positive then the retard who held the office 8 years before him...

His Holiness congratulates Obama, and in his letter to Obama it reads (from Phalyul.org on Otober 10, 2009):

“The Committee has rightly noted your efforts towards a world without nuclear weapons and your constructive role in environmental protection. The 20th century was a century of bloodshed and all of us have the responsibility to make the 21st century a century of dialogue and co-operation. There is thus the need for concerted efforts from all sides in this highly interdependent world to promote and adopt a more compassionate approach."

"I have maintained that the founding fathers of the United States have made this country the greatest democracy and a champion of freedom and liberty. It is, therefore, important for today's American leaders to adopt principled leadership based on these high ideals. Such an approach will not only enhance the reputation of the United States, but also contribute tremendously to reducing tension in the world"

China's bullying tactics - 4 - USA legislators

China, a country of over 1 billion people is scared of one simple Buddhist monk, guess who....

From Phalyul.org, October 9, 2009:
China on Friday warned members of the US Congress to 'stop using the Tibet issue' to meddle in Beijing's domestic politics, after top US lawmakers gave a human rights award to the Dalai Lama.

Ummm... since when is a human rights award by US lawmakers an internal affair of China? Which part of  the US is now claimed to be Chinese territory?

China welcomes nobody for 'Big Celebration'

China announces a wonderful celebration - nobody welcome.
Of course that is logical; nothing to celebrate...

From Tibet Weekly Sep 22, by the International Campaign for Tibet:
China bans foreigners from Tibet ahead of Oct 1 celebrations: China has banned foreigners from travelling to Tibet ahead of the October 1st celebrations marking 60 years of Communist rule in China. Security has been stepped up across the country to ensure nothing mars the celebrations.

As Phalyul.com wrote on September 28:
Beijing is expected to mark its 60th anniversary by the grandest martial parade in the history of modern China with a display of its military prowess. "Thursday's parade is certain to provoke an outpouring of virulent nationalism," the report said. According to Chinese military websites, the People's Liberation Army would "unveil six weapons systems, including new generation Jian-10 fighters and JL-2 ballistic missiles." Some 200,000 soldiers will march in 56 formations, one for each of the officially recognised ethnic "nationalities" in China, the report added.

Gee, I'm glad I'm not welcome.

China's bullying tactics - 3 - India

China, a country of over 1 billion people is scared of one simple Buddhist monk, guess who....

From Phalyul.org, Reuters[Friday, September 11, 2009 20:50]:

China opposes Dalai Lama trip to Arunachal Pradesh

By Krittivas Mukherjee

The Dalai Lama plans to visit soon Arunachal Pradesh, part of which China claims as its territory, an aide said on Friday in a trip that could again rile Beijing after it denounced his visit to Taiwan this month.
Chhime Chhoekyapa, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader's aide, told Reuters the Dalai Lama would be in Arunachal Pradesh in the second week of November
"He is going there for teaching. This has nothing to do with politics, there is nothing political about it," Chhoekyapa said.   ....
"China expresses strong concern about this information. The visit further reveals the Dalai clique's anti-China and separatist essence," Jiang Yu, the spokeswoman for China's foreign ministry, said in a statement faxed to Reuters.
"China's stance on the so-called 'Arunachal Pradesh' is consistent. We firmly oppose Dalai visiting the so-called 'Arunachal Pradesh'," Jiang said.

Torture and murder

From the TCHRD website, 10 September 2009:

"A Tibetan monk died from torture whilst in Chinese detention

According to reliable information received today by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), a Tibetan monk from Drepung Monastery has died from torture in a Chinese detention center, Lhasa. He is alleged to have died in August 2009."

Let's pester Tibetans - 1

From TCHRD website September 9, 2009:

"China launches the “Strike Hard” campaign in Tibet ahead of major anniversary

The Chinese authorities in “Tibet Autonomous Regions” (‘TAR’) has decided to launch a new “Strike Hard” campaign ahead of the 60th Anniversary of the National Day Celebration (starting 1 October) according to the official report posted on Xizang Re bao (Tibet Daily) dated 8 September 2009.
... The last “Strike Hard” campaign that took place for 42-days, was launched on 18 January 2009, during which a total of 5,766 Tibetan suspects were rounded up and questioned. No official figure has ever been released regarding the number of suspects released or detained so far."

Strange, I thought this "Strike Hard Campaign" is already active since 1959? Perhaps it should be called "Strike Even Harder Campaign", or just "Exterminator"?

China's bullying tactics - 1 - Taiwan

China, a country of over 1 billion people is scared of one simple Buddhist monk, guess who....
His Holiness the Dalai Lama visits Taiwan to pray for victims of the recent typhoon.
This is 'obvioiusly' an aggressive act towards mainland China....?
See the Times Online
Actually, according to Phalyul:
"China twice protested the Dalai Lama’s visit and warned Taipei that the visit would damage Taipei-Beijing ties, which have been improving since President Ma Ying-jeou took office in May 2008.
To retaliate against Taiwan for allowing the visit, China has cancelled or postponed several delegations’ trips to Taiwan."

Nepal becoming like a Chinese province?

The Tibetan uprising in early 2008 is all but forgotten in the media. Unfortunately, the situation for Tibetans has barely improved since the brutal Chinese crackdown. So, there is still a flow of Tibetan refugees over the dangerous Himalayan mountain passes.
Refugees do not merely risk their lives by crossing these dangerous high-altitude passes without proper clothing, equipment, or even decent shoes. Even high in the mountains, they are easy targets in the snow for eager Chinese soldiers, who don't hesitate to shoot and kill them. When they manage to reach the Nepalese border, one would expect the worse of their horrors to be over, but lately Nepal behaves more and more like an outpost for China. Tibetan refugees are hunted down and - when not killed - are handed back to the Chinese authorities. What happens after this handover in China is anyone's guess; many of the refugees are never heard of again...
The International Campaign for Tibet published this report:
'Dangerous Crossing: Conditions Impacting the Flight of Tibetan Refugees, 2007-8

But also for Tibetans living in Nepal things are worsening. The Nepalese government is so eager to please their big Northern neighbour, that they seem to have decided that pestering Tibetans is a good way to obtain more help from China - how low can you get?
The International Campaign for Tibet wrote this report on the situation:
'An uncertain welcome: how China's influence impacts Tibetans in Nepal,' July 27, 2009

Apparently shouting "Free Tibet" in Kathmandu lands you in jail these days... See this report.
