On January 22, the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy released their annual report for 2009, and as expected, it's not exactly light reading.
The year 2009 was no different when it comes to violation of human rights of the Tibetan people inside Tibet by the Chinese authorities. For Tibetans inside Tibet it’s been yet another year of heightened security, repression, isolation and suppression. The year encapsulated with numbers of highly sensitive anniversaries in Chinese calendar was dealt with an iron fist. The year 2009 marked 50 years of exile for the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people.
... China outshined its notoriety as the world’s leading practitioner of death penalty, carrying out more executions than all the other nations in the world put together.
... there are hundreds of Tibetans who are still held without any charges...

Dharamsala, January 22 - China has objected to a pledge by a Costa Rican presidential candidate to name a stadium in the San Jose after Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama saying it "is not in line with the common desires of the two countries", reported the Indo Asian News Service.

Dharamsala, Jan 19: India's National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan said his office and other government departments, including computers in the Prime Minister's Office, were targeted by hackers believed to be from China, according to a report.

Dharamsala, January 19: ‘The Sun Behind the Clouds: Tibet's Struggle for Freedom,’ a documentary film by Tibetan and Indian filmmaker couple has been declared 'audience documentary favorite' at the prestigious 21st Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival which concluded in California yesterday.
This comes after the Chinese withdrew their movies from the festival in protest against a documentary about Tibet. Perhaps the western audience is not so easy to manipulate as the home-crowd in China?

Activists working for the Tibetan cause in Bangladesh are still being harassed and intimidated after Dhaka police, under pressure from Chinese officials, forcibly closed a Tibet photo exhibition in Dhaka in November last year. China’s imposition of its intolerant system and policies on Bangladesh is depriving the freedom of Bangladeshi citizens.

China continues arms build-up despite warming ties with Taiwan: U.S.

Washington, Jan. 13: Although Taiwan's relations with China have improved, China has continued its military build-up against the island, which raises doubts about whether China really wants to adopt peaceful means to resolve cross-Taiwan Strait issues, U.S. officials said Wednesday.
Who is so naive to think that China is interested in peaceful means anywhere? They only understand bullying and scare-tactics if you ask me.

Internet giant Google says it may end its operations in China after hackers targeted the e-mail accounts of Chinese human rights activists.
It said it had found a "sophisticated and targeted attack on our corporate infrastructure originating from China".
It did not specifically accuse China's government but said it was no longer willing to censor its Chinese site's results, as the government requires.
Google says the decision may mean it has to shut the site, set up in 2006.
Sorry for the loss in your shares, but you should not have wanted to earn money with censorship for the Chinese government to begin with.

The director of the Palm Springs International Film Festival has said two Chinese movies selected for the event have been withdrawn after organisers declined Chinese government representatives' request to cancel screenings of a documentary about Tibet’s freedom struggle.
Good thing that a country withdraws their unrealistic fantasies from a film festival that shows a few good movies.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said Tuesday, "We urge the U.S. to clearly recognize the severe consequences of arms sales to Taiwan and adhere to the three Sino-US joint communiques, especially the principles established in the Joint Communique on Aug. 17, 1982.”
Jiang was responding to a question on China-U.S. relations in 2010 at a regular press briefing. As the Obama administration is reportedly expected to approve the sale of arms to Taiwan early this year and as President Barack Obama prepares to meet the exiled Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama China said it firmly opposed arms sales to Taiwan by the U.S. and any contact with the Dalai Lama “in any form and in any name.”
Do the Chinese authorities seriously think that Obama is a Chinese citizen who can be told who to talk to?
